Tyson Atwell, MFA 2012Terra Light Main Material: Terracotta Flowerpots
The ellipsoidal Terra Light is composed of 190 terracotta flowerpots. These flowerpots are secured to the perimeter of a white powder-coated sheet metal frame by their existing drain hole. The light from a single bulb radiates outward from the center to illuminate both the inside and outside of each pot. The three-dimensional texture created by these iconic clay pots glows in a striking orange-red hue. The repetitive, cylindrical shapes of the flowerpots cast an unexpected, ethereal shadow, which adds a compelling layer to Terra Light.

Kristin Ross, BFA 2012Snake Eye VesselMain Material: Transparent Dice
The Snake Eye Vessel is constructed from transparent yellow dice that have been adhered side by side, forming a sheet material whose edges are joined at compound angles to form an irregular polyhedron. Every die facing towards the outside of the vessel features the number dot ‘one’. The transparency of the plastic allows the viewer to also see the number dots facing towards the inside of the vessel. The passages of light through the transparent material create deep patterns that emerge from the repetition of simple cubes and number dots. Placing dice within a system of a calculated and rigid form discloses a new level of interest that directly contrasts their typical associations of movement and chance.

Scot Bailey, MFA 2012Cup LightMain Material: Plastic Cups
This Cup Light gives the users the opportunity to interact with a familiar object in an unexpected way. Plastic cups, usually stacked vertically, are held horizontally enclosing a fluorescent tube. The movable outer cups act as a physical dimmer, modulating light as the user shifts them. The low cost plastic cups are transformed into a desirable, interactive lighting object.

Iliahi Anthony, MFA 2012Infectious Cocktail Dress Main Material: Clinical Facemasks
Clinical facemasks usually worn to prevent the spread of infection are assembled to create a new wearable piece that entices the viewer to come close instead of stay away. The clean, sterile condition presented by the mask is challenged by the nature of this dress. Short, strapless and with a low back the wearer exposes just enough to be irresistible, compelling, and infectious.

Katie Stout, BFA 2012Tray Table Main Material: Plastic Cafeteria Trays
The Tray Table is composed out of stacked, plastic cafeteria trays. The structure of the table with its undulating legs references a Victorian tray table. The removable trays of the top surface with their large curvilinear cutouts are unusable. This ornamental quality questions the utilitarian characteristic of the cafeteria tray, which is normally seen in an institutional setting to implement greater efficiency to the dining experience. The Tray Table’s Victorian inspiration removes the cafeteria tray from its intended environment and whimsically refines the cafeteria trays into a piece of furniture meant for the home.

Jamie Wolfond, BFA 2013Communicable Seats Main Material: Disposable Syringes
The Communicable Seats use the icon of the disposable syringe as a metaphor. Two medical stools act as a pneumatic seesaw as pairs of syringes connected with surgical tubing represent a network of blood transfers. The interaction with this object in the context of infectious diseases emotionally challenges the users.

Taylor McKenzie-Veal, MFA 2012This Little Piggy Main Material: Discarded Beverage Bottles
This project utilizes discarded beverage bottles as a raw material.
By reiterating the original, high-tech manufacturing process of blow molding in a low-tech manner using basic tools and components, the empty bottle is converted into a vessel of value. In just minutes a small oven, an air compressor and a plywood mold are used to re-blow mold an empty bottle into a newly functional item.

Anna Fulton, BFA 2012Mira Platform Stiletto Main Material: Artificial Acrylic Nails
The translucent base of seven-inch-high Mira Platform Stiletto consists of artificial acrylic nails breaking through its cast surface. The upper casing of the stiletto is made out of a layered pattern of artificial nails painted in a gradation from red to nude. The Mira Platform Stiletto merges low-end beauty products with the world of high fashion. It blurs the line between these two worlds by combining artificial nails with the inherent sex appeal of a stiletto.

Blind Light
Main Material: Wooden Venetian Blinds
Venetian blinds are typically used to modulate light as it enters an interior space. They are experienced as two dimensional, rectilinear membranes between the inside and outside world. The Blind Light twists and drapes venetian blinds as if they were pieces of cloth to create a sensuous suspended form. Once its interior volume is then filled with light, its sculptural form evokes supple lines.
