Kristin Ross, BFA 2012Snake Eye VesselMain Material: Transparent Dice
The Snake Eye Vessel is constructed from transparent yellow dice that have been adhered side by side, forming a sheet material whose edges are joined at compound angles to form an irregular polyhedron. Every die facing towards the outside of the vessel features the number dot ‘one’. The transparency of the plastic allows the viewer to also see the number dots facing towards the inside of the vessel. The passages of light through the transparent material create deep patterns that emerge from the repetition of simple cubes and number dots. Placing dice within a system of a calculated and rigid form discloses a new level of interest that directly contrasts their typical associations of movement and chance.
